วันวิสาขบูชามีความสําคัญ คือ เป็นวันเพ็ญเดือนหก ซึ่งตรงกับวันประสูติ ตรัสรูิ และปรินิพพานของพระสัมมาสัมพุทธเจ้าในวันเพ็ญเดือนเดียวกันทั้ง 3 วาระ และได้รับการยกย่องให้เป็นวันสำคัญสากลของโลก
